Increase backup success rates while significantly reducing data protection costs
3DBackup Protect: Server
3DBackup is a new and innovative solution for protecting data on Windows Systems. It uses source (client-side) deduplication, incremental-always, and a hybrid file-block approach to ensure that each backup is small and that total storage requirements are manageable. The use of Volume Snapshots (VSS) allows consistent backups of system state, in-use files, and databases.
3DBackup Protect provides our customers with the confidence to focus on core-business strategic activities.

3DBackup Protect: Workstation
Using the same technology as 3DBackup Server, 3DBackup Workstation is the ideal solution for protecting desktops and laptops. Using the provided management interface, which features policies to configure backups for groups or individual clients, protecting the data on hundreds or thousands of clients is easy.
Data is created and modified on workstations and may exist in no other place in your enterprise unless steps are taken to protect it.
Reduce complexity, increase efficiency, and slash the time required to backup or restore your PCs
Features
& Benefits
Workstation and Server
Fully Managed
All aspects of 3DBackup are managed centrally. Large populations of clients are easy to manage with policies that can are applied to groups (and sub-groups) of clients while still having the flexibility to tailor settings for individuals.
Source Deduplication
Source deduplication is highly efficient of network bandwidth and results in small backups. Source deduplication coupled with differential encoding means that there is no penalty for always doing full-system backups. Once your first full-system backup is done, every subsequent backup of every similar computer results in a small backup.
Disaster Recovery
All 3DBackup backups are full-system backups – which contain user files, the operating system, applications and settings. This allows a “Bare Metal Restore” (BMR) in the case of hard drive crash or complete computer failure. The entire system can be restored to a new hard drive or computer. Full-system backups also free you from guessing which files are important to the user.
User Self Service
3DBackup allows Single Sign-On by users, using their existing Active Directory credentials, to browse their own backups and recover their own files. Only an administrator can perform a BMR, but users can perform restores of their own files and folders.
Multiple Versions
Multiple versions are kept of each file – as many versions as you decide to keep (configured by policy). You can selectively restore any previous version of a file directly from the user-friendly web interface.
Low Impact
3DBackup utilises an advanced I/O Reservation system that ensures I/O capacity is available to users or server applications during a backup. This allows backups to be run at any time without impact to users or response times. You can choose to run backups during the day using I/O Reservation, or run them after hours at full speed. I/O Reservation adapts to system load and so backups may run at full speed even during the day if the user is idle or applications aren’t busy.
Cloud Replication
Offsite replication is essential to protect against catastrophe.
3DBackup provides policies for automatic replication to Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, or other
SMB storage available on your network (such as a remote server, NAS or SAN). Replication is
efficient, as only changed data is copied, and safe. Data is encrypted in flight, and at rest
using AES and a 256bit key (derived from a passphrase supplied by you).
Differential Rollback
Differential Rollback is new technology that
allows the restoration of a backup to the protected client (the client that produced the backup)
resulting in a rollback, but only restoring the differences between the current state
of the client and the backup. Typically, Differential Rollbacks are extremely fast, perhaps
only taking a few minutes (depending of data volume, network & disk performance), and yet are
nominally "full system" restores.
Differential Rollback is the perfect answer to ransom-ware like Cryptolocker.
Differential Rollforward
Differential Rollforward is new technology that makes it fast and easy to maintain a cold standby, either physical or virtual, of an important server. As backups are taken of the primary server, the backups are restored to the standby keeping it up to date. Differential Rollforward allows restorations into the standby to only restore the differences between the current state of the standby and the backup. Typically, Differential Rollforwards are extremely fast, perhaps only taking a few minutes (depending of data volume, network & disk performance), and yet are nominally "full system" restores.
... and the most exciting features are still under-wraps so stay tuned.
About us
3DBackup was founded in 2010 by Nigel Bree and Rob Stutton. Between them, Nigel & Rob have more than 20 years of experience with disk imaging and computer management.
it is possible to realise the best features of block-based imaging and file-based backup while achieving global deduplication at lightening speeds with asynchronous I/O!

Prior to 3DBackup, Nigel Bree was a Senior Principal Software Engineer for Symantec Corporation, responsible for many key innovations in the Symantec Ghost Solutions Suite (GSS) and Norton Ghost products. Nigel was also an employee of Binary Research Ltd, the creator of the Ghost product, which was acquired by Symantec in 1998.

Rob Stutton was a Senior Director of Engineering at Symantec Corporation until 2010, responsible for engineering on all of Symantec’s deployment products (GSS, Altiris Deployment Solution, Veritas Provisioning Manager) in addition to Altiris Client Management Suite and pcAnywhere. Rob has four US patents in the fields of disk imaging and backup.
